A microwave is such a convenient appliance made to make our lives so much simpler. The problem is when your microwave goes out, you either need to fix it or get a new one(which can be expensive). We do not recommend fixing your microwave on your own because there are some very high voltage parts in there that can be lethal, so call your appliance repair specialist to take care of it.
Why is my microwave running but not heating?
The most common problem with the microwave is that it does not heat up. Here are three common problems and how to fix them.
1. The microwave door switch has gone bad
If the microwave won’t run but has power, chances are the door switch has gone bad. The microwave might look like it’s working fine but just won’t turn on.
2. The microwave diode has gone bad
Now if the microwave is running, but not heating the food, this could be an issue with the diode. This is a pretty straightforward fix if you know basic electronics. A diode will allow electricity to flow in only one direction and if it goes out, there can be a short which causes all sorts of problems.
3. The microwave heating element has burnt up
This is the scary fix. Sometimes your microwave won’t heat up because the magnetron is faulty. This is the part that is responsible for producing the heat in your microwave. A problem with a magnetron can also cause all sorts of other problems like blowing a fuse so we recommend getting a trained professional to take care of it.
